Pancreatin is comprised of three different enzymes that are produced in the pancreas: amylase, lipase and protease. This combination forms the pancreatic acid or ‘pancreatic juice’ as it is often called which also includes another enzyme known as trypsin.
Pancreatin is essential for the body, to aid in the digestion of foods, especially fats. This enzyme is often used in the treatment of cancers, food allergies and immune disorders.
A diet rich in raw fruits and fermented foods such as kefir, kimchi, and sauerkraut can provide the body with natural digestive enzymes with similar actions as pancreatin.
Raw foods that contain similar digestive enzymes
- Almonds (contain lipase)
- Apples (contain lipase)
- Avocados (contain lipase)
- Bananas (contain amylase, maltase and trypsin)
- Barley (contains amylase)
- Beetroot (leaves, roots and stems contain amylase)
- Brown rice (contains amylase)
- Cabbage (contains amylase)
- Chickpeas (contain trypsin)
- Coconut (contains lipase)
- Corn (contains amylase and lipase)
- Eggs (contain amylase)
- Figs (contain protease)
- Flaxseeds (contain lipase)
- Ginger (contains protease)
- Honey (contains amylase, catalase, glucose oxidase, invertase and trypsin)
- Kefir (contains lactase, lipase and trypsin)
- Kidney beans (contain amylase)
- Kimchi (contains amylase, lipase and trypsin)
- Kiwi fruit (contains actinidin and protease)
- Lentils (contain lipase)
- Lupini beans (contain lipase)
- Mango (very ripe contains amylase)

- Papaya (contains lipase, papain and trypsin)
- Peaches (contain amylase and lipase)
- Persimmons fruit (contain lipase)
- Pineapple (contains bromelain and trypsin)
- Pine nuts (contain lipase)
- Rapeseed (contains lipase)
- Reishi mushrooms (contain amylase)
- Romaine lettuce (contains lipase)
- Sauerkraut (contains amylase, cellulase and lipase)
- Soybeans (contain amylase, lipase and trypsin)
- Spinach (contains amylase, lipase and protease)
- Sprouted seeds and grains (contain amylase)
- Sweet potatoes (contain amylase)
- Walnuts (contain lipase)
- Wheat (contains amylase and trypsin)
NOTE 1: Only raw whole foods contain these enzymes. Any processing such as heat treatment or pasteurisation of the above foods kills the enzymes.
NOTE 2: Never use a metal spoon with honey as this kills the enzymes. Always use a wooden dipper or spoon.
