Lignans

Lignans consist of enterolactone, sesamin and enterodiol and can protect against breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. The gut bacteria convert lignans into these chemicals with some oestrogen-like effects. Lignans also have antibacterial and antiviral activity.

Enterolactone is a compound produced by gut bacteria from plant lignans that can lower the risk of breast and prostate cancer. It also can protect the heart by reducing inflammation and oxidation.

Sesamin is a lignan sourced from sesame seeds which can help to reduce fat. It also reduces inflammation, lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, and supports liver health. It can also improve bone health, help to balance blood sugar levels and help with controlling weight.

Enterodiol acts as a antioxidant protecting the heart and improving bone health whilst also preventing cancers like breast and prostate.
