Monosaccharides

Monosaccharides are sugars (simple carbohydrates) found naturally in foods which can provide instant energy but they can also be all too easily over consumed and the energy is not used up and so they get stored as fat.

Simple carbohydrates also include sugar added during food processing and refining. In general, foods with added sugars have fewer nutrients than foods with naturally occurring sugars and so much sugar in the diet can lead to diabetes, infection, obesity and many other serious ailments.
